On the 26th January 2026, NSPCA Inspector Caroline Faherty followed up on a report of multiple dogs being kept at a property in Co Cork.
Dogs were found living in filthy sheds and kennels. Living conditions for the dogs were extremely poor, with faeces and evidence of vermin infestation throughout the site.
Numerous empty kennels indicated that a larger number of dogs had previously been kept on the premises.
The owner, an elderly male, admitted that the dogs were being kept for breeding purposes, and in the past he and his ex-wife had a lot more dogs which they also used for breeding.
He further acknowledged that the dog kennels had not been cleaned in a very long time, with the last cleaning he could recall occurring during the previous summer.
As a result of the inspection, eight dogs were surrendered and removed from the premises. One dog in particular, a Bichon, had severe matting. All dogs are now safe and under the care of the NSPCA.

In addition to this seizure, records indicate that so far this year Inspector Faherty has removed a total of 29 dogs from a variety of situations, one of them, an emaciated Lurcher gave birth to 8 puppies shortly after being rescued.
Also since the start of 2026, Inspector Faherty removed two donkeys, two ponies, and two cats, all as a direct result of reported cases of animal cruelty in the Cork area. Sadly, she has also had to oversee the humane euthanasia of one donkey, one mule and one pony in the field where no other option remained.
