When Pablo arrived into our care, it was clear he had been suffering for a long time.
This wasn’t something that had happened overnight. It was the result of months of neglect.
Pablo was found as a stray and brought to the shelter in a heartbreaking condition. Around 60–70% of his tiny body was severely inflamed — his skin raw, red and painful to the touch. He was suffering from mange and alopecia, his nails were overgrown, and he was underweight.
He was also terrified.
It’s hard to understand how a life so small and precious could be left to endure such suffering. Pablo was shaking with fear, and both his body and his heart needed time, care and patience to begin healing.
While Pablo received the urgent veterinary treatment he needed, it was his foster home that truly changed everything for him.
In the quiet comfort of a loving home, Pablo was given the time, patience and care he needed to begin healing, not just physically, but emotionally too. His foster family made sure he received his daily medication and soothing baths, but just as importantly, they gave him kindness, reassurance and a sense of safety he had never known.
Slowly, Pablo began to change.
His skin started to heal, and his hair began to grow back on his neck, belly, legs and paws. The frightened little dog who once trembled began to relax. Day by day, his confidence grew.
With the support of his foster family, Pablo discovered what it felt like to be cared for, to be comfortable, to feel secure, and to simply be a dog.
After everything he had been through, seeing Pablo happy, settled and safe is incredibly special.
His journey is a powerful reminder of the impact foster homes can have. They give animals like Pablo the space to recover, the care to rebuild, and the love to finally experience the life they deserve.
