Meet Gambon – he is a male guinea who came into the shelter from another rescue. We estimate he is around 1.5 years old. Gambon is a stunning guinea pig with such a lovely shiny coat – and he knows it! He certainly knows how to work a camera – just look at that over-the-shoulder snap! Gambon is quite a dominant guinea pig so would do well in a home with younger males or a home where he could be neutered and live with females. He’d be best suited with someone who has had guinea pigs before and has some experience bonding them. No doubt he’ll be a head-turner wherever he goes 🙂
Guinea pigs are highly social animals and need to live with other guinea pigs. Please only apply for Gambon if you have other male guinea pigs or are open to neutering Gambon so he can live with females.
Thank you for choosing to adopt a small animal from the NSPCA. Please make sure to do your research on how to care for a small animal before considering adopting. We recommend guinea pigs be kept indoors with an enclosure that’s a minimum of 140 x 60cm for two guinea pigs with plenty of opportunities to roam in a larger space with tunnels, hides and things to forage in and search for food.
Guinea pigs require proper housing, bedding, food, enrichment, exercise and vet visits. They are also very shy animals. Small animals are not pets for young children to look after, all the family must be on board to look after and care for any new pet coming into the home. We have seen too many being abandoned so please make sure that you are in a position to look after them and provide them with everything they need.
