• The NSPCA opposes the offering for sale in pet shops, of native wild animals, or of exotic animals which are not adaptable to Irish climate or conditions, or which have been caught in the wild.
  • The NSPCA opposes the sale in pet shops of animals whose physiological, social, or behavioural needs cannot be adequately met.
  • The NSPCA advocates for obligatory codes of practice, and regulation / restriction of the keeping of species which, due to their particular physiological, social, or behavioural requirements, and the difficulty in providing adequate care in a domestic environment, are simply not suitable to be kept as pets at all.
  • The NSPCA would remind anyone who is selling pets that the Animal Health and Welfare (Sale or Supply of Pet Animals) Regulations 2019 must be adhered to.
