Severely Neglected Mare Rescued

Yesterday, NSPCA inspectors responded to a call from a member of the public regarding the welfare of a horse in South Dublin.

Upon arrival, it was clear that the poor horse was severely underweight, her spine and rib cage was visible and she a significant open wound on her back.

She was immediately transported to the NSPCA Dublin, where she was settled into a warm stable and received a full veterinary assessment. The wound on her back was very badly infected which is now being treated.

We’ve named her Cilla and she’s currently under close veterinary care and has begun a carefully managed feeding plan to help her safely regain weight. This remains an ongoing case under investigation by NSPCA inspectors.

Once again we are horrified by the appalling treatment of equines in the country and Cilla is just one of the many horses we are caring for at the NSPCA.
