Creating Lasting Change
Rescuing and caring for animals is only part of the NSPCA’s work.
We are also committed to addressing the root causes of animal suffering and creating lasting change for animal welfare in Ireland.
Through advocacy, policy development and engagement with decision-makers, we work to strengthen animal welfare legislation, improve enforcement, promote responsible animal ownership and ensure animals are afforded the protections they deserve.
Our advocacy work is informed by animal welfare science, evidence and the practical experience gained through our rescue, veterinary, rehabilitation and inspectorate services.

A Voice for Animals
Animals cannot speak for themselves, which is why the NSPCA works to ensure their welfare is considered in the development of laws, policies and practices that affect their lives.
By combining frontline experience with evidence-based advocacy, we work with government departments, local authorities, veterinary professionals, animal welfare organisations and other stakeholders to improve welfare standards and drive meaningful change.
Together, we can build a future where animals are protected from cruelty, free from unnecessary suffering and treated with the compassion and respect they deserve.
Our Policy Positions
The NSPCA develops and maintains policy positions on a wide range of animal welfare issues. These policies help guide our advocacy work and inform our engagement with government, regulators and other stakeholders.
Our policies cover areas including:
