The NSPCA Dublin Centre has a proud history dating back to 1840, when it was established as the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA).

For over 180 years, the Dublin centre has been dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming sick, injured and neglected animals.

Originally founded as the Dublin Auxiliary of the Royal Society for the Protection of Animals, the organisation later became widely known as the DSPCA before joining with the ISPCA to form today’s National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA).

Today, the NSPCA Dublin Centre serves as the organisation’s national headquarters, providing expert veterinary care, animal rehabilitation, rehoming services, education programmes and community support from its purpose-built campus on Mount Venus Road, Rathfarnham.

The organisation was based at Grand Canal Quay in Dublin city centre until 1990, before relocating to Stocking Lane, Rathfarnham. In 2003, it moved to its current headquarters, which is now home to our veterinary hospital, adoption centre, education facilities, dog park, pet hotel, doggie daycare, memorial garden and a wide range of animal welfare services.

The NSPCA Longford Shelter plays a vital role in the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of animals from across Ireland.

Set on 88 acres of beautiful countryside, the centre provides a safe haven for animals that have experienced cruelty, neglect or abandonment, giving them the care and support they need on their journey to recovery.

Opened in 2002, the centre is one of the NSPCA’s key animal care facilities and works closely with our Inspectorate and veterinary teams to provide specialist rehabilitation and long-term care for animals of all kinds.

NSPCA Longford is home to dogs, cats, equines and a variety of other animals, with purpose-built facilities designed to support their physical and behavioural recovery before they are matched with loving new homes.

Visitors can also enjoy the peaceful Memory Garden, nestled within the woodland surroundings of the centre, offering a tranquil place to reflect and remember beloved pets.

The NSPCA Wicklow Centre, located in Sharpeshill, Co. Wicklow, plays an important role in protecting and improving the lives of animals throughout the county.

The centre works to rescue, rehabilitate and responsibly rehome animals in need, while also promoting responsible pet ownership and supporting animal welfare within the local community.

Over the years, the Wicklow Centre has become a valued part of the community, providing opportunities for volunteering, education, fundraising and community engagement. Through its dedicated team and supporters, the centre helps give vulnerable animals a second chance while inspiring compassion and responsible animal care across County Wicklow.

Today, the NSPCA Wicklow Centre continues to provide a safe haven for animals in need, working alongside the wider NSPCA network to create a kinder future for animals throughout Ireland.

The NSPCA Cork Shelter is home to the organisation’s dedicated Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, which was established in 2007 to meet the growing need for specialist care for neglected, abandoned and cruelly treated horses, ponies and donkeys in the south of Ireland.

The shelter provides a safe haven for equines rescued from situations of neglect, abuse and abandonment, offering veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and ongoing care before they are responsibly rehomed wherever possible. Many of the animals arriving at the centre require extensive physical and behavioural rehabilitation, reflecting the challenging circumstances from which they have been rescued.

NSPCA Cork also works closely with statutory agencies, including An Garda Síochána, providing temporary care for equines involved in investigations and legal proceedings. As a result, some animals remain at the centre for extended periods while court cases are ongoing.

Today, the NSPCA Cork shelter plays a vital role in protecting equine welfare across Ireland, giving vulnerable horses, ponies and donkeys the care, compassion and second chance they deserve.

The NSPCA Waterford Office plays an important role in supporting animal welfare across Waterford and the surrounding region.

Working closely with the wider NSPCA network, the office helps raise awareness, build community support and generate vital funds that enable the organisation to rescue, rehabilitate and protect vulnerable animals throughout Ireland.

The Waterford team is passionate about engaging with local supporters, businesses and volunteers to promote responsible pet ownership and inspire compassion for animals. Every fundraiser, event and partnership helps make a lasting difference to animals in need.
